This piece was made using threads that were naturally dyed with specific plants by Hilaria and her family in their native community in the Andes. About alpaca wool: it is a soft, durable, luxurious, and silky natural fiber. Alpaca wool is not prickly, and has no lanolin, which makes it hypoallergenic. It comes directly from the alpaca animals cared for by Hilaria and her family.

It is difficult to fully appreciate the extent of the process it takes to make such an item, from the alpaca shearing, to straightening it out, dying it naturally with plants from the region, setting up the traditional back-strap loom, praying for the design, and finally, weaving this marvelous work of art.
