About Chief Matsini: Matsini Yawanawá is the spiritual leader and chief of Aldeia Mutum, located in the Yawanawá Indigenous Land, Rio Gregório, Acre. He has a great study of the spirituality of his people, has carried out deep diets with the sacred plants and had as masters the shaman Tata Natasheni and his father, the leader Raimundo Tuikuru to initiate him. Currently Matsini is one of the main teachers of Yawanawá knowledge, since many experienced elders have passed away. He is an inspiration for many young people, who want to study the songs, traditional narratives and other knowledge of their people. Nowadays his dream is to structure the Samakei Center – The Center for studies and diets in Aldeia Mutum. This place is a sacred space where the great elder leaders passed on their knowledge. It is the root of the community, where young people will develop their spirituality and continue Yawanawá ancestral practices and knowledge. Proceeds from this course will go towards the funding & consecration of the Samakei Center.
Rumē: A 2 Part Hapé Study with Hushahu
We are blessed & grateful to provide this incredible opportunity for Hapé Lovers to dive deeper into the alliance with the sacred Hapécito, in right relationship & under the guidance of a true master and lineage carrier. Hushahu takes us on a journey into an understanding of the correct ways to work with hapé (rumē) and how to create a relationship of respect with this powerful plant ally. She shared rare stories from the Yawanawa culture regarding how the hapé came to her people, its origins and what the ancestors’ wisdom mythology teaches regarding this plant medicine. She shared prayers and gave an opening and a clear path for how to work with the hapé in the right way, according to the Yawanawa tradition. She answered many questions that are helpful for forming your relationship with Hapé. This is for any Hapé Lover who is serious about deepening their understanding in the traditional ways of working with Hapé, or anyone new to Hapé who would like guidance and initiation from a wisdom keeper to begin your practice in the right way.
About Hushahu Yawanawa: In 2005, at the head of the Gregorio River in Acre, Hushahu Yawanawá, an indigenous woman of 25 years old, decided to break a taboo in her tradition and started, along with her sister, Waxy, a women’s revolution in their village. Up until that moment, no woman had spent one year in isolation as a form of shamanic ritual initiation (dieta) to access the forest’s spiritual knowledge. Seeking directly the teachings of the village’s past elders, Hushahu became a reference in Yawanawá spiritual and artistic knowledge, at a time when her people were undergoing processes of weakening traditional practices due to the strong missionary influence in the indigenous land and culture. During her dieta, through contact with the forest spirits, Hushahu received different kinds of kene yawanawá and grafismos (sacred designs), and taught the other women of her village. In her immersion she also entered into the study of the making of rauti, ornaments and ritual artifacts, made of feathers, bones, and other materials, bringing strength and renewal to their tradition. Upon returning from the dieta, she became a reference for other women from within and outside her village, bringing her work and message to far corners of the world. She is a healer, leader, & of course, an incredible artist. We are honored to carry her sacred jewelry, kuripes, tepis, & hapé medicine.
